Silent dojo breathes
Echoes of the Warrior's code
Strength blooms in stillness
At Florida Budo – Shokuju Dojo, martial arts is more than just self-defense, it is a way of life. The name Shokuju means “nurturing trees,” symbolizing our commitment to cultivating growth, resilience, and balance in every student. Just as a tree grows stronger through its roots, branches, and seasons, our training develops physical strength, mental clarity, and emotional resilience that extend far beyond the dojo walls. Rooted in the traditions of the Bujinkan Dojo, our practice includes:
These disciplines are not sports, but timeless lessons from the samurai and ninja traditions, helping students of all ages gain confidence, discipline, and inner strength.
At Shokuju Dojo, our philosophy is simple: respect, humility, and personal growth. We train without competition or ego, allowing each student to progress at their own pace. Like a tree that grows steadily over time, our training nurtures lasting strength and character.
To make training accessible, we offer:
Whether you are seeking self-defense, stress relief, or a path of discipline and transformation, our dojo welcomes you. Step onto the path of Budo, a path of honor, strength, and personal growth, rooted in the spirit of Shokuju.

Victor Acebo (Shugyōsha), Chief Instructor of Florida Budo, brings decades of experience in traditional Japanese martial arts and a lifelong commitment to preserving the authentic teachings of the Bujinkan Dojo. Skilled in Kenjutsu (swordsmanship), Bojutsu (staff techniques), and Taijutsu (unarmed combat).
Victor offers students a comprehensive education that blends physical technique with mental focus and spiritual growth. He founded Florida Budo to create a supportive, non-competitive environment where individuals of all ages and skill levels can build resilience, balance, and confidence both on and off the mat.
Guided by his vision, training at Florida Budo becomes more than practice, it is a path of honor, strength, and personal transformation.
The spine’s gentle flow,
Healed by hands in quiet grace
Like a passing breeze.

In the blade’s shadow,
The heart casts its reflection
The wind comes to rest.
This haiku captures the moment of tension just before or after a decisive clash when both combatants understand that the battle isn't only physical, but deeply spiritual.
Tyler Donaway - Dojo Administrator

Grey Belt MCMAP
My name is Tyler Donaway, an Honorably Discharged Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and a combat veteran who served in Garmsir, Afghanistan, with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in 2008, where I worked as both an Infantry Mortarman and Armored Humvee driver. Beyond my military service, I’ve shared my passion for history by teaching armored combat and leading Viking reenactments that highlight both full-contact fighting and cultural education.
My love for Japanese tradition has inspired me to run a small kimono business and explore hands-on crafts such as sushi making, gardening, and woodworking. Joining Florida Budo Dojo has been a humbling and inspiring step on my martial arts journey, where I continue to train with dedication, stay curious in my practice, and honor the path of budo with respect for those who came before me.
